You can find Food Gift Baskets to match any tastes and this item is a sure winner around the holiday season. Many people love getting these arrangements full of treats during the Christmas season. Food gift baskets are perfect for families of any size and there are so many choices of items for such packages that you can find something for everyone on your list.

My father made a statement about having everything that he could possibly want. If you can’t eat it or drink it then I don’t want it. His words really rang true. How many times have you received a present that just didn’t appeal to you? Just about everyone has. I am pretty sure that food gift baskets were not among the unwanted presents.

The awful thing about getting an object that you hate is that there is the problem of possibly hurting a friend or relative’s feelings. There will come an occasion where that person sees that the object is gone or packed away in the attic somewhere. You hate the idea of having loved ones waste money on an unwanted present but it happens all the time.

I’ve been on the other end of the situation, too. I bought my mother expensive birthstone earrings arranged in a unique design that I thought she would love. She hated them. Of course, she would never tell me that but I know simply because she never wears them. I finally asked and she said that they hurt her ears.

The first thing that crossed my mind was that I would have been better off following my father’s advice. Last year, everyone on my list over the age of 20 got food gift baskets for Christmas. I made sure to do a little research before making the selections and everyone was thrilled and some were relieved.

I found chocolate food gift baskets for the many members of my family who love the cocoa bean. These arrangements were breathtaking and I think that some were saddened that they had to take them apart to get to the chocolate. They got over it quickly, though.

Cheese food gift baskets accompanied bottles wine for my more mature gift recipients while baskets filled with cookies were perfect for anyone young at heart. The responses to the food gift baskets were so positive I think that I may have started a new family tradition.

Cruises are romantic, relatively all-inclusive and a wonderful way to see a variety of ports on board a glamorous ship - making them a premier choice for honeymooners. If you’re planning on booking a honeymoon cruise, keep reading for great tips on how to book a beautifully romantic honeymoon cruise vacation.

Check the Ship’s Age Restrictions

Because your honeymoon is a romantic time away, you may want to opt for a cruise that is geared specifically toward couples and adults rather than families with children.

Most cruise lines offer sailings and ships that have age restrictions. These boats are typically restricted to unmarried individuals over the age of 25 and married individuals over the age of 21. Before you book an age-restricted cruise, make sure you meet the ship’s requirements.

Splurge on Something

Either book a small, inside cabin on a luxurious ship or a larger cabin on a smaller ship, but try to splurge on something. You’re supposed to be saving for your new life, but you don’t want to remember your honeymoon as being cramped inside a sardine tin. Remember to call ahead to have a bottle of champagne waiting for you when you arrive.

Read Traveler Reviews

Before you book a romantic honeymoon cruise, read through online traveler reviews. By reading other honeymooners’ and vacationers’ notes about their experiences, you’ll get an accurate idea about the ambience of the ship, the quality of its facilities, food and accommodations.

Book for Your Interests

If you plan on actually leaving your cabin, book a cruise and destination that appeals to your interests. If you both love wine tasting, then opt for a cruise that includes shore-side wine tours and nightly wine tasting. If you’re into adventure travel, look for something that offers scuba diving alongside rock climbing and spelunking.

Remember, for almost every interest, there’s a cruise that caters to it, so you should be able to find just about any specialty you desire.

Get Married On Board

Many ships offer wedding packages that allow couples to even get married on board. Fully catered and officiated by the ship’s captain, cruise ship marriages are easy to organize and legal.

If you’re looking for a “destination wedding” that includes a honeymoon, a cruise wedding is simple and definitely doable. Typically, cruise lines (like Carnival Cruises) offer wedding packages that range from a simple ceremony with cake and decorations to fully catered events that include an open bar, entertainment and shore-side activities.

Cheap Flights to Australia

A friend of mine just returned from a three-week vacation to Sydney, Cairns, and the Australian Outback. I’ve spent the last few days looking at photos and listening to him rave about all the amazing adventures he had on his trip. Of course, I’m totally jealous now, as that’s the exact itinerary I’ve been dreaming about for years. The only thing that has prevented me from making the journey Down Under is a lack of funds, but I’m due a bonus at work within the next month, so I think I’ll finally have enough money to go.

I’m so excited about the prospect that I’m already checking into flights to Australia to see what how much I’ll need to spend. I know that airfare has been on the rise pretty much across the board recently, so I have to admit that I was worried about having to pay an arm and a leg just to get to over to Sydney. Fortunately, while flights to Australia are indeed more expensive than other top vacation spots, the prices aren’t nearly as bad as I feared they would be.

The main reason for this is the fact that there are so many discount travel websites on the Internet these days. Most of them offer good deals on flights to Australia, so I’m 100 percent sure that I’ll be able to find something in my budget. It helps that my travel dates are completely flexible, as that obviously gives me the opportunity to go during off-peak times when fares are at their lowest.

Anyway, I decided to use a site that quickly compares rates on all flights to Australia offered by every airline that flies out of my nearest airport. It was very easy to get these instant rate quotes. All I had to do was type in the dates that I wanted to travel on, the number of people in my party, and a few other details, such as whether or not I minded layovers. Once I entered this information, I then received a list of cheap flights to Australia that met my criteria.

I haven’t actually booked my flight to Australia yet because I think fares might dip a bit lower in a few months as winter arrives in the southern hemisphere. In the meantime, I’ll just keep monitoring prices every couple days or so. Then, as soon as I see a reasonably cheap flight to Australia that I can afford, I’ll snap it up and make the rest of my travel arrangements immediately after.

I can’t even begin to tell you how great it feels to know I’ll be going on my dream vacation soon!

Cheap Travel International Flights And You

Finding cheap travel international flights is more of an art than a skill. Before the Internet became so prominent, the situation was both better and worse. On the one hand, there seemed to be less competition for providing cheap international flights. It required several calls to different airlines to research the best deal, so few people bothered to really ensure that they were getting a good price – a fact which kept prices higher. On the other hand, if you were persistent you could almost always get the best deal. It could take you an hour or two, but by that time you would have an excellent idea of what airline offered the best rates on the dates you were thinking of traveling.

Nowadays, there are cheap airline deals all over the place. Almost every day, there are dozens of offers for cheap travel international tickets to thousands of different destinations. Paradoxically, this can make it harder to find the best deal than before. There are many websites where you can look for cheap tickets, and each one is set up in a different way.

Some people have a favorite. My mom, for example, almost always starts with Kayak.com. I know other people who are big fans of Travelocity, Cheaptickets.com, or some other airline travel bargain website altogether. Still, in reality no one site has the best deals all the time. With cheap travel international, as with any other attempt to find the best price on the Internet, the more work you do the better off you’ll be.

When I start off looking for cheap travel international, I usually go to kayak.com first. The advantage of that web page Is that it runs searches of other travel engines. As a meta-search tool, it is more likely than most to provide the cheapest international tickets. Nevertheless, it is not always right. Sometimes, it misses a deal. Other times, there is a special rate only available on an airline’s own website. It varies from time to time, and sometimes things end up being disappointing. There have been times, for example, when I have bought a cheap airline ticket only to see one much cheaper crop up the next day. In these circumstances, it is important to keep your mind on the positive. Just remember that you are getting a great deal, and missing out on an even better one will not depress you as much. Cheap travel international is like anything else – no matter how good a deal you get, chances are that there is an even better deal somewhere.

In order to do this, you first want to assess your physical condition, and if you have any physical limitations that may affect your ability to practice a certain style then you will have to take this into consideration.

To Conclude

Dear Shark Lovers

We have had a very busy month and have seen an exciting variety of sharks as well as some old friends!

To start off the month we were doing mostly pelagic shark trips and have seen plenty of mako sharks. Our wait time has also been very short which is always a pleasure and in a small way makes up for the 2 hour boat trip out there. We also did one trip last week where we unfortunately could not dive due to bad weather. The sharks were very good though and we saw 2 fairly large makos and two very big blue sharks that were both over 2 meters in length. This was the first time we have seen blues in about four weeks. We were also privileged to have a massive yellowfin tuna swim around our boat for about an hour. We estimated this fish to be about 200lbs and a lot taller than Chris! When yellowfin tuna get to about 100lbs they develop sickles and this tuna had sickles that were so long they were bending over to touch its back, something we had never seen before.

On the way home from one of our pelagic trips we came across a small school of common dolphins. As they approached our boat to ride the bow wave a shoal of sardines rose under the boat, obviously using it for protection. For some strange reason the dolphins lost interest and moved off but a pod of about 50 seals began to devour the bait ball. It was absolutely fascinating the watch the skill of the seals as they feasted but at the same time we were very respectful of the sardines that could only wait their turn. In fact everything was happening so close to us that we could smell the sardines on the breath if the seals. We even saw three very big bronze whaler sharks rise through the bait ball to claim their share, something we really were not expecting.

We normally do not do any pelagic trips during our winter months due to weather and the Aguhlas Current usually being further offshore, but in the upcoming months we want to give it a go and see what the different climatic changes bring. Shark Cage Diving

In April Chris & I wanted to dive with the sevengill cow sharks again but unfortunately did not get round to it. This month we made sure we had time and one afternoon Chris & I went for a dive. The water temperature is dropping now and it was a chilly 16 deg Celsius. We had been in the water for about 40 minutes, waiting all the time for the massive King of the Kelp beds to arrives. When we do this cow shark dive I always feel a little wary as the sharks seem to appear out of nowhere and the visibility can also sometimes be poor. It was getting to the point where we were deciding to finish the dive and Chris was taking a last few shots of a puff adder shy shark. I turned around to see a medium sized cow shark approaching us and didn’t have time to warn Chris. All sharks are curious animals and cow sharks are no different. This shark went straight below to where Chris was, giving him a nice surprise. Luckily the shark was very relaxed but still happy to give us close inspections. Soon after she arrived a very small cow shark, only about 1,2 meters in length showed up. This one was a little more excited and would repeatedly bump the dome point of Chris’s camera. I am always amazed at how sharks can make one forget one’s circumstances. We were both so cold before the first cow shark arrived but still managed to stay in for a further hour. In the end we saw 5 different cow shark including a very large female of about 2,8 meters. I guess the adrenalin is a quick cure for the cold!

Sharks are also an excellent cure for seasickness and often times guests on our boat who are not feeling great are cured within minutes of a shark arriving!

May generally signals the start of the great white shark season at Seal Island. The last two years in May have been very quiet so we were expecting the same this year. I am pleased to say that we have been very fortunate to have seen plenty of sharks on all our trips this month.

After a season of mako and blue sharks I had temporarily forgotten how immense white sharks actually are and it is very tempting to over size them. The sheer girth of a white shark usually makes them seem bigger than what they are. This is probably the reason for all the 6 and 7 meter white sharks that are reportedly seen by general water users when they encounter them. Shark Cage Diving

On one trip we recorded 15 different sharks that visited our boat, and on other trips we have seen between 8 and 12 different animals. In the last two seasons we have struggled to get sharks to our boat and I think the most we saw last year was 11 on one day.

When there are so many sharks around we get to observe very interesting behavior and body language. Although white sharks are solitary we personally think that they travel in loosely associated groups and over the years we have observed the same sharks to be present at the Island together. This still does not mean that they are happy to be in close proximity of each other. When two or more sharks are around the boat at one time the larger animal is usually dominant. Small sharks will give way to them with speed and sometimes only return once the larger shark has departed. We also observe sharks flexing dorsal fins, gaping and also hunching their backs. These communications between sharks are warning signs to each other to adhere to the hierarchy system. Shark Cage Diving

Asia Budget Travel is Easy

Budget travel in Asia is easier than travel in any other continent, comprising of countries that are fast developing while still holding onto their cultural heritage. If you are happy to eat what the locals eat and travel like a local then budget travel in Asia will be no problem for you. You will also be able to see a lot more of the country and experience daily life as the locals do as a budget traveler. Asia is probably an ideal place to backpack as there are many destinations within the continent that offer creature comforts when you are sick of roughing it.

Unusual Travel

The best way to budget travel in Asia is to find the most common mode of transportation and take it. Not only will it get you farther for less but the journey is often an experience in itself. An example of taking the route less traveled would be to take a boat ride through Bangladesh, it is a slower mode of transport but you will see a side of the country that land travel will not offer. Be prepared to put up with long uncomfortable bus journeys if you really need to stretch your budget and opt for local bus and train services.

Street Food

Street food is largely available in almost every Asian country and is a big plus of budget travel in Asia. You can get to sample all sorts of local delicacies for very good prices. You have to be a little vigilant in some countries more than others about food poisoning. For example India and other parts of South Asia are notorious for food poisoning from street food. However places like Malaysia, Thailand and most of Indochina are safe in terms of street food. It is however a good idea to stick to bottled water at all times no matter where you are.

Accommodation

Budget travel in Asia varies from country to country. Some places like Bangladesh which are not geared towards tourists do not have a conspicuous absence of nice rooms. Availability of decent rooms depends on your definition of decent and what you are willing to pay for. Rates often start very low with the sky’s the limit for luxury pads, finding somewhere in between is usually not that difficult. Look on travel forums and other websites to see where other people have stayed. Remember that if you are traveling in some Muslim countries that it might be better for couples to say they are married when staying together.

Handy Tips on How to Deal With the Auto Dealers Thailand Offers You

There are very few countries such as Thailand where almost everything is amazingly welcoming and hospitable. However, when it comes to buying a used car and contacting auto dealers in Thailand, the situation can be quite puzzling.

Buying a Used Car is as Good as Having an Adventure in Thailand

Unlike other Asian countries, there is no bargaining with the auto dealers Thailand lists for foreigners, and the prices are very steep. You would need to have someone who not only speaks the language but also knows very well about the car type you are planning to buy.

You do not have much choice here – you would need to check out the stockyard for a car that appeals to you and buy it. It is that simple. However, before you buy it, you need to find out for yourself how good the vehicle is. In case what you want is not there, you could ask the dealer to search one for you.

The Trade Secrets of Auto Dealers Thailand

In order to buy a car you need to deal in cash because though the contract sheet offers a column for ‘down payment’ and ‘monthly payment’ when it comes to foreigners, the only thing that is acceptable is cash. It is almost impossible for a foreigner to get a loan in Thailand without a guarantee from a local national.

Most of the auto dealers Thailand has would offer a fixed period warranty on the vehicle – however, very few really honor that part of the agreement which is more like a standard format than a commitment. So, unless you have had the car checked very well t is likely that you will be left in a lurch in the near future.

There are some auto dealers Thailand offers who showcase excellent condition used cars for foreigners and for obvious reasons they honor their commitment regarding the warranty. However, these cars have ridiculously high price tags that would make buying a new car a much better investment.

A New Car Versus a Used One

If you compare these, you would find that buying a new one is far more advantageous than buying a second hand one. Also, the best bargains would be found in Bangkok from where most of the locals buy their used cars (and then drive it down to their place of residence). Phuket is a great tourist location hence the market is tuned to cater to foreigners.

In other words, if you are planning to buy a used car in Phuket, you might find the exact one you like, but the price would be ridiculously high. Bangkok market would be a better option here. A good alternative to buying a car would be to use a motorcycle (on hire) or the local transport which is excellent.

What You Need to Know About the Department of Land in Thailand

Many foreigners (read Westerners) go to Thailand for a visit and then completely and thoroughly fall in love with this wonderful country. It is not surprising because everything in this lovely country is fascinating – the people, the customs, the weather, the food – everything; besides living is comparatively cheaper than in any of the Western countries.

The Role of the Department of Land in Thailand When You Want to Buy Land

Foreigners are always welcome to Thailand as they are considered to be a great part of the tourism revenue. The hospitality offered by the officials and civilians is out of this world. Thai people are extremely polite, helpful and they never seem to get upset about anything. However, according to the rules of the Government (Department of Land in Thailand) no foreigner can own land in the country.

Do not despair though. There are many ways under which you could be permitted by the Department of Land in Thailand to own land but not as outright ownership. The best way to get through the rules and regulations that the Department of Land in Thailand imposes on foreigners is to go through a local firm that specializes in this kind of job.

In fact, the function and coverage of the law on this aspect as well as the role of the Department of Land in Thailand is best explained and handled by such firms which often have American managers. So, it would be easy to relate your sentiments and wishes to them for best results.

What Does the Law Say?

One way is leasing land - foreigners cannot own land outright, but they can take out a thirty year old lease which can be renewable if conditions are found favorable for another thirty years. They can also acquire some percentage of land when they are part of a company where the majority consists of Thais.

High investment allows you land possession. If and when a foreigner invests 40 million in local currency or more during a block period of five consecutive years, that foreigner can buy land which he/she could use strictly for residential purposes.

Joint ownership with a Thai Spouse – a foreigner can own land when it is in the name of his/ her Thai spouse. However, this is not transferable and if the spouse divorces or dies the land would go to the next Thai kin. Houses and buildings – according to the Department of Land in Thailand a foreigner can own a house or building as long as it is used strictly for residential purposes.

The Amazing History of Thailand

Did you know that Thailand is one among the few countries in the world which have never been colonized? According to the history of Thailand the original Thais date back to the inhabitants of the Khorat Plateau who inhabited it some ten thousand years ago which is indicative from the fact that the present Thai language has major components of ancient Chinese language.

The First Thai Kingdoms – The Sukhothai and the Ayutthaya

History of Thailand points out that the first known real Thai kingdom was called Sukhothai which came into existence in the year 1238. This period which came under the rule of a much revered King Ramkamhaeng (which translated into English means Rama The Brave) was considered as the Golden Era of Thailand. By 1287 the King had joined hands with two of his neighbors, Prince Mengai of Chiang Rai and Prince Ngam Muang and in 1296 and the Northern Provinces alliance was founded for which Chiang Mai was selected as the Capital.

In the South the kingdom of Ayutthaya was very important, and in this area religion and spiritualism reigned supreme, even above the military. With time, this kingdom would become more and more powerful and prominent. By about 1431 the Ayutthaya king’s powers reached Angor which was then the capital of the Kmer Empire. This kingdom became gradually one of the most powerful and economically stable cities in Asia – at par and sometimes even better than London.

As chronicled in the history of Thailand somewhere in the 16th century this kingdom forged economic relationship with the Portuguese and from there they imported mercenaries who were used in the war against the Kingdom of Chiang Mai. The Portuguese also brought the skills of musketry and foundry to this kingdom.

In 1569 Autthaya fell to the attack of the Burmese led by King Bayinnaung who almost razed the city to the ground and hijacked almost all the able bodies people back to Burma. It took 25 years for it to bounce back, when Naresuen (of Ayatthuya) managed to declare it an Independent State in 1584. Under his rule, Ayatthuya prospered again and established itself as a powerful city of those times.

The Burmese took over Ayuttahya yet again in 1767 looting and plundering the wealth this city and capturing more than 90 thousand prisoners including members of the royal family. The history of Thailand says that the victory was however short lived as a brave Thai general, Phya Taksin managed to organize sufficient troops to expel the Burmese occupation successfully. Hence, Taksin became the King and under his rule (until 1782) the present day Thailand was formed by uniting the kingdom of Chian Mai and Cambodia with Autthaya.

The next King crowned was Chakri (a Cambodian general) who ruled under the name of Rama I and who named Bangkok the capital of Thailand. He restored peace and prosperity to the country, a tradition that was and is still followed by his successors until the present day. Today, under the able leadership of King Bhumibol or Rama IX the history of Thailand continues.

Koh Tao Thailand: Relaxing and Communing With Nature

Koh Tao Thailand is one of the most popular diving areas in this part of the world. If you are one of those people who want to spend your vacation diving, you must go to Koh Tao Thailand. The good thing about Koh Tao Thailand is that it has something to offer to amateur and professional divers alike. Even if you have not even tried diving before, you can still diving in the waters of Koh Tao, Thailand with the help of expert divers in the different resorts in this area.

How to Get to Koh Tao Thailand

Located in the Northwest of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, Koh Tao can be distinguished in the map as the smallest of this cluster of three islands. Actually, the island is not really that small. In fact, the island of Koh Tao is the twentieth largest among the islands in Thailand.

The name Koh Tao which means turtle in the Thai dialect is derived from the shape of the island itself. If you have enough money to charter a small plane to fly you to the island Koh Tao during a clear day, you can see its turtle shape. However, since a ride on a chartered plane can be quite expensive, you just have to take the word of the geographers regarding the shape of the island.

Getting to Koh Tao Thailand is relatively easy nowadays. Since the island has become one of the prime ecotourism destinations of the country, there are now boat trips going to the island daily. The boats are not usually crowded except during peak tourist seasons so you can easily get a ticket even if you do not make prior reservations.

The prices of boat tickets vary depending on the kind of accommodations that you like. Prices for tickets of fast crafts are higher compared to the prices of tickets for slower boats. However, given the nature of the place, it is better for you to take a fast craft instead of those slower boats. Fast crafts usually have better safety features compared to those old boats that ply across Thailand.

Where to Stay in Koh Tao Thailand

There are many resorts and hotels near the beach of Koh Tao. The cost of your stay varies according to the type of accommodations that you want. If you are planning to stay for a few days or longer, try to look for a resort that offer weekly or monthly rates to their guest.

The Wondrous Maps of Thailand

Thailand is a mountainous country that has many different geological features such as plateaus and rivers. Without a map of Thailand you would be completely lost around Thailand, if you were a first time visitor. Thailand has complicated mountain ranges and also a very long peninsula that branches out along the Gulf of Thailand. A map of Thailand would be extremely helpful when trying to travel around Thailand. For instance, if you were trying to travel from Bangkok, the nation’s capital, to Buri Ram, you would need to know that a large mountain range is right in your way. This would be a big ordeal if you were trying to get to Buri Ram on a certain deadline. Even locals sometimes need maps of Thailand so that they can get to a certain province or city quickly and efficiently. Maps of Thailand are especially helpful to first time visitors and tourist. Thailand is a country full of rich and lively culture, but it is of no use if you cannot find the rich and lively culture. A tourist visiting Thailand wouldn’t want to rent their own car and accidentally end up in Cambodia instead of the southernmost tip of Thailand’s peninsula. There are also maps of Thailand’s provinces. There are about 75 provinces in Thailand and some provinces offer more for tourist than others do. The only problem is getting there. Maps of Thailand’s provinces would come in handy here because a large majority of their maps have keys that tell you where the best tourist attractions are and the best places to eat and sleep. Maps of Thailand are usually very informative and helpful to anyone, local or visitor. Many people rely on these maps to travel around Thailand and even neighboring countries such as Cambodia or Laos.

How are maps of Thailand different from other maps?

Maps of Thailand are typically no different than any other average map. Thailand maps usually have a normal legend that will show certain tourist attractions or hotels. Thailand also sells maps that only show a certain province or province district. These are important to tourist and locals alike because they can help show distinctive landmarks and also rivers and shortcut roads and bridges. Maps of Thailand are usually very informative and have decent topography features as well as export maps and tourist maps. Thailand is a very exciting country to visit as long as you have a great map to lead you to new possibilities.

Retirement Thailand: Many Attractive Options To Live A Retired Life In Comfort And Pleasure

The secret to an enjoyable and healthy retirement lies in being able to enjoy a comfortable life that would be well deserved after having lived a life of sweat and toil. For such deserved rest in the twilight years of one’s life, retirement Thailand is certainly a viable option because it will reignite your passion for life and bring your senses alive once more in an amazing country where the motto is to live and let live.

New Culture, Language And Way Of Living

However, in spite of the friendly people and exciting Thai women, retirement Thailand is not as simple as you may have imagined, because life in Thailand, even during retirement is sure to be an adventure in itself, and the way of thinking will certainly be a lot different from what you have been used to while living in the West. Thai people almost never seem to have a hard time in life and are probably the least serious of all people that you will ever encounter, and even when matters are serious enough to warrant gravity and solemnity there is hardly a cloud on their furrow.

Nevertheless, retirement Thailand is sure to be a healthy experience for you and among the many reasons why this is so is of course the lovely women in Thailand who will provide you with relaxation and also peace and of course will take you to their hearts as well. For those of you who are used to Western living, Thai women will be a welcome change though it is not only foreigners, but also Thai men who are affected by the influence of Thai women, who in any case, will at least help you get over the culture shock.

Thai culture is also sure to be very alien for foreigners and the weather too is very hot and of course you won’t have a clue as to what Thai language is all about. However, despite these small challenges, you can easily cope with them, and with a little perseverance, you could even pick up the language and become more Thai as well. Furthermore, retirement Thailand need not necessarily mean having to live in Bangkok because many of the smaller cities are equally as suitable.

To really get the most out of retirement Thailand, you could even choose to live in the mountains to the north of the country, or head south west where there are excellent coastline and where you can enjoy beach life in places such as Phuket. Whatever option you choose, you will find the low living costs and many expatriates as well as low rate of crime very appealing that all add up to a very attractive retirement Thailand lifestyle.

Survivor Thailand Good or Bad

When the hit series “Survivor” went to Thailand in 2002, the people expressed mixed sentiments. Although there were many people who expressed their excitement over the idea that the TV hit series will actually have a “Survivor Thailand” episode, there were also a lot of people who expressed apprehension over the filming of “Survivor Thailand.”

Of course their protests are really moot and academic now considering that the show was successfully filmed in Tarutao Island National Reserve almost five years ago but since there were really some good points brought forth by many environmentalists at that time, it is therefore worthy to look back and see if their claims were really substantiated.

The Environmentalists Points of View

Several people expressed apprehension on the effect of the activities that the show will bring to the island of Tarutao. The Tarutao Island National Reserve is one of the protected areas in Thailand that serve as home to some of the world’s endangered species. Since the shooting of “Survivor Thailand” in the area could disturb the environment, many environmentalists expressed their apprehensions about the probably destructions that “Survivor Thailand” can bring to the island of Tarutao.

According to many environmentalists at that time, even if the people filming “Survivor Thailand” is very careful not to disturb the environment, the people who come to the island to witness the filming of “Survivor Thailand” may not really be that careful. They argued that when the film “The Beach” starred by Leonardo Di Caprio was filmed in Thailand, people became so interested in the island featured by the film that many of them tried to go to that island, causing a lot of destructions to the protected area.

Although some of the apprehensions of the environmentalist were valid, more of these apprehensions were really overrated. Unlike the movie “The Beach”, the filming of “Survivor Thailand” did not really attract so a large crowd. Yes, there were people who wanted to watch the filming but the producers of the show were really strict about people going into the island to watch them work.

Since most of those people who come to the island to try and watch the filming of “Survivor Thailand” were turned away, they ended up visiting the nearby marine national park. According to reports, the visitors to the marine national park increased tremendously during that period. In the end, the filming of “Survivor Thailand” in Tarutao Island did not really cause much damage. In fact, it helped boost the awareness of people on marine conservation.

They have sort-of a Military Junta under a Parliamentary democracy and Constitutional Monarchy. Thailand has a climate that is typically tropical, but Thailand also has to deal with monsoons from mid-May-September and November-mid-March.

Travel to Amazing Thailand: Understanding the Thailand Culture

Thailand is one of the most exotic places in the world. Here you will find a mixture of cultures of the orient. Although Thailand culture, like any other cultures all around the world is already much affected by western ideals, the strong influence of Buddhism and Hinduism is still very much evident.

For instance, the visual art which is one of the signatures of Thailand culture is still shows the strong influence of Buddhism. In fact, many buildings all over Thailand still have images and statues of Buddha. To understand a few things about Thailand culture, let us look into the different cultural aspects of the place.

Region as Part of Thailand Culture

Thailand will not be complete without its religions and religious practices. Like most parts of Asia, religion in one of the focal points of the lives of the Thais. If you look at the statistics, about 95% of the people in Thailand are Theravada Buddhist. The minority of the people are a composed of 4.6% Muslims and 0.7% Christians.

Since Thailand culture hinge on the ideas of Buddhism, the government of Thailand supports Thai Theravada Buddhism. The monks in this place therefore receive some government benefits such as free public transportation and the use of some public infrastructure. Technically, there is no strong separation of the church and the state under the Thailand culture.

Cuisine

Food is one of the hallmarks of Thailand culture. According to food experts, the Thai cuisine is a mixture of four fundamental taste namely, sweet, spicy, sour and salty. Most Thai cooking combine all these four fundamental taste. Aside from combining all four fundamental tastes, Thai cooking is also known for its hot flavor. Of course their blend of hot flavor is not really as hot as the Mexican version but if you are sensitive to chili anything hot on your food, you better take precautions before sampling some types of Thai food.

Customs

The Thailand culture is filled with distinctive customs and traditions. One of the most popular Thai custom is the wai which is a form of greeting or acknowledgement. This type of gesture is like the Indian namaste gesture, which is characterized by a prayer hand position and the bowing of the head. Usually, this gesture is used to welcome visitors and friends so if you are planning to go to Thailand, you need to be familiar with this type of greeting. You don’t really want to feel out place when meeting new friends.

Thailand Flag Has Seen Many Changes Since The Days Of King Monkut

The Thailand flag has five stripes arranged horizontally in blue, white and red colors with the red and white colors on top, and below which is the blue stripe that is twice as broad as the red and white stripes. There is a certain significance attached to each color of the flag and the red and white and blue colors each signify the nation, religion and king respectively, and are considered the country’s motto, albeit not officially so.

Current Flag Was Adopted In 1917

The current Thailand flag was adopted by the country as recently as on 28th October in the year 1917 and it is referred to as a tricolor flag and is certainly a far cry from the earlier Thailand flag that was being used during the time when the country was referred to as Siam and which at that time was most probably just a simple red colored flag that was used in the time of King Narai. This red colored flag was also adapted by the country’s navy and there were different symbols used such as a white colored chakra symbolizing the weapon of their god Vishnu, and within the chakra a white elephant was used.

However, the first known Thailand flag was created around the year 1855 by a King named Monkut or Rama IV in which a white elephant was depicted and which was a royal symbol that was set to a red ground and which helped to make the Thailand flag more distinct in order to improve its international image. Then, in the year 1916, the flag got a design change which is its current design though it still has the middle color as red.

In any case, a year later there was another change to the Thailand flag and this time the middle color was made dark blue, which was considered auspicious according to Thai astrology and which symbolized the day that King Vajiravudh came into this world. However, some people consider the change to blue color as being symbolic of a show of solidarity with the Allied Forces during the First World War who also had the same colors in their flags.

An interesting feature of the Thailand flag is that it closely resembles the national flag of another country (Costa Rica) that had earlier adopted those very colors about eleven years prior to the creation of the Thailand flag though these flags differed from one another in that the blue and red colors in the flags were inverted.

Food from Thailand is popular the world over; with Thai restaurants in Europe and America. Thai food benefits from the influences of neighboring countries such as Laos, Malaysia, China and India. Food in Thailand has a mixture of tastes; with each dish having different proportions of sweet, sour, spicy and salty. The contrasting flavors found in each dish are cooked in such a way that they are complementary and offer the adventurous diner a delicious experience. The Thai custom of eating several dishes with rice allows you to sample the many dishes found in Thailand.

Regional Flavors

Food in Thailand varies from one region to another. Food in the South of Thailand tends to be spicier than food in other regions. A specialty of the South is gang, a spicy curry. The curries in the South also tend to have more coconut milk which makes for a richer taste. Northern tastes lean to salty flavors and food here has less sweet and sour notes. Pork is also the preferred meat of the Northern region but other meats such as beef, duck and chicken are also readily available. Due to its remoteness seafood does not really feature in food in Northern Thailand.

In the North-East glutinous rice is a staple served at almost every meal; it is eaten with everything from roasted meats to papaya salad. The menu in this part of Thailand can also include frog, lizard, field rat and red ants. These types of meat are favored by poorer people who cannot afford chicken, beef and pork on a regular basis but can be an interesting experience. Food in Central Thailand borrows from the best of the surrounding area and rice is a must at every meal. The food is also smoother in texture and sweeter in this locality.

Food on the Move

Street food in Thailand is an affordable way to sample Thai cuisine; it is very cheap by Western standards and is made right in front of you. Food stalls are set up in every city and village and offer a either a quick snack for the traveler on the go or a sit down meal while the rest of the city whizzes by. Street food in Thailand is prepared right in front of you so you can be assured of its freshness, and at the same time see the unique ways these exotic delicacies are cooked. For the less adventurous there are still many indoor restaurants that offer affordable dining and there are also restaurants that cater to the gourmand.

When we talk about the concept of altering consciousness, what do we actually mean? Do we mean improving our memory? Is it increasing our IQ or improving our sleep? Are we discussing becoming psychic or clairvoyant, or reaching a deeper meditation state? Or do we simply want to be able to stop yelling at our children? Now as I see it, altering consciousness is all of this and much, much more. It is shifting the very way we think, see the world, live our lives, and exist on this planet.

If all of this is sounding very new-agey, that’s because it is.

For instance, when I speak of this you probably think of Echart Tolle and THE POWER OF NOW or A NEW EARTH. I bet you also consider THE SECRET and manifesting your dreams. You may think of an life-shifting course called The Landmark Forum. But you also may consider time-honored things like Yoga, meditation, Buddhism, and karma. I’ll bet some of you even bring to mind various world religions or even Christianity. I know when I think of ways to alter consciousness, I think of timeless quotes like “There but for the Grace of God Go I” and “Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. ”

And as people ponder all of this, they sometimes realize one profound thing… the idea of altering consciousness is not so very new.

You see, people have been trying for centuries to alter consciousness. And there has been a long standing idea regarding ‘in what direction’ we should actually alter it. Who disputes, for instance, the concept of living on this earth in peace with all mankind? Who argues against tolerance, love and good judgment? What person would say it is better to harm people than to help them? Who thinks it is not a good thing for all beings to live their lives in happiness, joy, and with complete fulfillment?

No, the idea is not a new one. So then what is new here? Obviously there is something that makes the concept of altering consciousness hit our world, and rock it like an atom bomb. Here’s what I believe. I believe that lots of people are dropping the bomb of possibility for a new new world order right on top of our heads. And we, for the first time ever, are actually able to see what it is. Masses of us now believe that we may be able to alter our lives and the world, by altering our consciousness. And this is a totally new phenomenon. Now we don’t say it’s definite. We don’t say it will be easy. But many of us do say “This could happen.” And that’s big, and it’s brand spankin’ new.

Now here is what none of us is sure of- will kill ourselves of, or will we become this possibility of a whole new world?

If you’re an optimist like me, you’re trying to beat the clock. You and I will try to pull for humanity to find ways alter consciousness, and quickly. And in my articles and blogs, I will give you some good ideas of how to do this. Some are time-honored and take work and practice. Others like brain entrainment are simpler to do and may work more quickly. So stay tuned as we explore this whole new, but old, world. And with that I will say, namaste, and peace be with you.

Be Aware of the Superstitions That Apply to Thailand Homes

Thailand is an extremely charming country shrouded in mystery and filled with legends about gods, goddesses, demigods, kings and queens. At every turn you would find some indication of the magic that is kept alive through the rich culture and attractive local customs. Foreigners are delighted to hear about such tales from the past that are not chronicled in any history books, yet are considered true by the locals and transmitted by word of mouth from generation to generation.

The Connection Between Thailand Homes and Age Old Superstitions

Before you settle down in Thailand, you need to know and understand the local superstitions that govern Thailand homes because this is a very important aspect with the natives. Even if you choose to ignore the beliefs that indicate good luck, you have to observe or rather avoid those that bring bad luck if you do not want to be shunned by the whole community around you for fear of “catching” the bad luck you are inviting.

Take note of these trees that are not meant to be grown in and around any Thailand homes because they indicate bad luck, sickness and death. If you ignore the superstition, most of the natives would have to avoid you and your home because not doing so would invite mishap to their homes as well.

The Rak tree – this tree gives very beautiful flowers which unfortunately are used to make garlands for convicted criminals just before they are executed. This tree is therefore considered to bring bad luck and death to those Thailand homes which allow it to grow in their vicinity or compounds.

The Tau Rang palm is another tree that is considered to bring ill luck. The reason is not very clear, other than the fact that it produces highly poisonous fruits and its name means ‘deserted’. This tree should never be planted in or around Thailand homes or the inmates of that home would go through bad times financially and in terms of inter and intra-relationships.

The Soak tree (translation of the name means ’sorrow’) is another plant that is feared and rejected by the local Thais. As the name indicates, it is believed that wherever this tree takes root, sorrow and unhappiness would take root as well. Hence, nobody would dream of having this tree in their garden. If it is found on the premises of a neighbor (who invariably has to be a foreigner as a local would never dream of having this tree) that family would be isolated from contact, lest the harm would indirectly reach the others.

Be Sure to Have a Thailand Map

Everyone knows how frustrating it is to be lost somewhere. Well, this frustration can be even worse in a foreign country, especially Thailand. A map of Thailand can be extremely helpful in trying to find your way around the extremely mountainous region. Thailand has many mountains, rivers, and even a large plateau. To a first time visitor, or tourist, this can be very frustrating in not knowing where to go. It would be very frustrating to rent a car in Thailand with intent on traveling to Thailand’s peninsula and instead ending up in Cambodia. This is where a Thailand map would come in handy. Maps of Thailand are typically very informative and very helpful to most anyone who lives or is visiting in Thailand. Even locals are in need of a map, sometimes, when traveling to a different province or province district. Tourists also use Thailand maps for this reason because some provinces and province districts offer more for tourist and visitors. Maps of Thailand will provide symbols to point out the best tourist attractions, hotels, and restaurants. A map of Thailand can mean the world of difference to the first time visitor of Thailand. Remember, sometimes forgetting a map can mean forgetting about having a adventurous vacation.

How do Thailand maps differ from other maps?

Most Thailand maps do not differ very much form any ordinary map. They almost all contain a legend that supplies the reader with plenty of information necessary to read the map. They have types of maps that can be helpful to different types of people. They have topographic maps that will help show elevation changes and large geographical landmarks. Mountains are very common in Thailand and a topographical map would help you tell where the largest and longest mountains are located. There are also great maps for tourist that tells where the most popular attractions are and where the best places to eat are. These kinds of maps are helpful to first time visitors and tourists. There are also trade maps which help show where major exports are made and manufactured. These maps are primarily informational. A Thailand map is an excellent item to keep with you on your trip to Thailand. Without a map your dream vacation can turn into a nightmarish adventure. Maps are important to find your way around any place. Thailand is no exception, and when traveling it is always important to remember to bring one.

Wine lovers no matter where they come from in the world, would find it awkward to believe that a number individuals just are not found of, or delight in ingesting wine especially since the giving of wine and gift baskets is also very popular these days. Wine is one of the most complicated refreshments that one can presume. With its amazing combination of smells and tastes, a wine can regularly signify the character and the area of its creation and will enhance any type of food from pizza to an elegant meal.

In countries where wine consumption and wine sellers has been an essential element of traditions for centuries, like France or Italy, known in the trade as the “Old World” - with regard to wine production) individuals are accustomed to ingesting wine from an early age simply as an essential element of a main course. In the “New World” countries like U.S.A, Australia and South Africa they have only been seriously manufacturing wines for the past 50 years or so, and even though it took a while, the wine traditions also spread very fast and they are rapidly catching up with their predecessors as far as thedomestic drinking of wine is concerned.

So how could anyone hate organic wine? Wine really is a learned flavor. Everybody has their own particular inclinations when it comes to flavor, which customarily developed from an early age depending on the sorts of foods one is used to eating. Vacationing more, individuals are at the present time wide open to more foods and refreshments from all over the globe.

Certainly when one takes their primary drink of dry, specifically red wine, the feeling on the palate at first can be something like that after eating particular unripe fruits or ingesting very strong tea – what is known in wine terminology as astringency, a vital element which should on the other hand, always be balanced in a ready to drink wine. Wine can be a stimulating indulgence to individual’s senses, covering the whole spectrum of tastes and smells. There is out there, a wine to fit everybody’s liking – it’s merely a case of testing them all till you find the ones you love!

The drawback with family cruises is school holiday times usually means peak season and this is where you should enlist the services of a travel professional. Sure, you can plan a cruise holiday yourself organize bookings on your own but just keep in mind the benefits you’ll fore go not using a travel professional.

The biggest one is peace of mind. A travel professional is someone you can fall back on for help should your schedule strike problems. In effect, they become a sort of security blanket. They can take care of most of the “little things” leaving you to simply head for the cruise departure point and enjoy your vacation.

Family Cruise Tips

Some tips are useful and some are essential when planning for family cruises. Some of the important tips to remember are:

- Be sure that any kids programs are up and running during the dates of your trip;
- check the size and location of the stateroom and the guardrails on the beds;
- know that some ships will have cabins that can sleep five while others have adjoining cabins — some cruise ships will even offer special rates for a second cabin for teenagers.

As well, you should always check that medical service personnel will be available; double-check what kind of documentation is required, and be especially careful if your child or children are crossing borders and only one parent is on the trip.

Don’t forget to budget for gratuities, as this bit of pre-planning is sure to come in incredibly handy during your trip should you encounter any difficulties.

Two of the most popular family cruises are Disney Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line. Both offer a wide array of activities and programs for children and teenagers, and Disney cruises even supply the parents with pagers after they drop their children off at certain playgrounds, while babies can get laid back at the Flounder’s Reef Nursery.
